Matthew 11:1-19 | The Journey To Easter: The Disappointed Believer
Download MP3In this message, Pastor Karl opens a four-part Easter series through Matthew 11–12, describing these two chapters as the "hinge point" of Jesus's ministry — the moment when people moved from being amazed by Jesus to being required to make a decision about him. He frames the series around four responses to Christ: doubt, indifference, opposition, and ultimately, death and resurrection.
Pastor Karl focuses on the figure of John the Baptist, who despite being called by God from the womb, boldly proclaiming Jesus as the Messiah, and living a life of radical faithfulness, now sits in a jail cell filled with doubt. Through John's story, Pastor Karl speaks directly to the "disappointed believer" — the person who has prayed, served, and sacrificed, only to find that what God has delivered looks different from what they had hoped for. Jesus's response to John is both a gentle rebuke and a profound reassurance: I am still the Messiah — but I will not always deliver what you desire.
The central challenge of the message is the call to remain actively engaged in faith rather than drifting into passivity and disillusionment. Pastor Karl draws on Jesus's words — "blessed is the one who is not offended by me" — to invite listeners to release their expectations, trust God's timing, and renew their allegiance to Christ, especially as their community stands at a critical moment of growth and opportunity.
