This week in our verse-by-verse journey through Matthew, Pastor Karl unpacks Matthew 22 — a pivotal chapter set on the Tuesday before Jesus' crucifixion, where four different groups challenge his authority, only to be silenced one by one.

Pastor Karl opens with a look at how authority is viewed differently across generations, from the positional authority respected by Baby Boomers to the influencer-driven authority sought by Gen Z, and asks a pointed question: what — or who — do we actually let have authority in our lives?

From there, the message walks through Jesus' encounters with the Pharisees, Herodians, Sadducees, and religious lawyers, showing how Jesus asserts his authority over five key areas: how we enter the Kingdom (the Parable of the Wedding Feast), what we owe the Kingdom (the "render unto Caesar" exchange), what Scripture means (the resurrection debate), what matters most (the greatest commandment), and ultimately, who he is (the identity of the Messiah).

The big idea: Jesus alone has the authority to define the Kingdom, define truth, define obedience, and define our relationship with God. This isn't a Jesus who asks for a place in your life — it's a Jesus who claims authority over all of it.
