Pastor Karl walks through Matthew 27:1-31, the last of the six trials Jesus endured before the cross. He covers Judas’s remorse, Pilate’s courtroom, the crowd’s choice of Barabbas, and the soldiers’ mockery. Along the way he explains some of the details that trip people up, including the Jeremiah reference and the differing accounts of Judas’s death.

The big idea: Jesus took the punishment we deserve so we can be offered the freedom we’ve never earned. Pastor Karl urges listeners to stop minimizing their sin, because the cross shows both how serious sin is and how great God’s mercy is. He closes with the question Pilate asked, “What will you do with Christ?”
